For many women, the appearance of their breasts is a crucial part of their body image and self-esteem. Over time, factors such as age, hormonal changes, pregnancy, and weight loss can cause breasts to lose their firmness and youthful shape. Mastopexy, or breast lift, offers an effective solution to restore the raised and toned appearance of the breasts. It is possible to perform this surgery with or without breast implants, depending on the desired result and seeking the patient's comfort.
Mastopexy is a surgical procedure designed for lift and firm sagging breasts. Unlike augmentation mammoplasty, mastopexy does not necessarily involve increasing breast size, but rather remodels existing breast tissue, removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple and areola for a more youthful appearance.
Ideal candidates for a breast lift without implants are those women who:
The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and can last approximately three hours. The surgeon will make incisions, the pattern of which will depend on the amount of lift needed and the amount of excess skin. Common methods include incisions around the areola, vertically down from the areola to the breast fold, and horizontally along the crease. After removing the excess skin, the breast tissue is reshaped and lifted, and the areola and nipple are repositioned for a more suitable appearance.
The recovery period for mastopexy can vary, but it's generally recommended to take at least one week off work and avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activities for the first few weeks. Detailed instructions on caring for the incisions will be provided, and the use of a compression bra may be required to aid in the healing process.
